The Sewer Lateral Lining Process

We often get asked about lateral lining, especially how it works. Well, that’s a great question. First of all, just so you’re clear, the lateral is the pipe that runs from your home or property to the sidewalk or street. Hence “lateral.” But the beautiful thing about lateral lining is that when we do it, we don’t have to dig up the entire yard to install brand new pips. You see, we do it from the inside out. We insert a liner into the existing pipe through an entry point, usually the sewer cleanout. From there, a durable epoxy liner is guided through the pipe and inflated with our advanced trenchless machinery.

We usually recommend lateral lining for customers who have been having drain problems, including pooling water, offensive odors and slow drains. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it may be time to rehabilitate your old sewer system, and lateral lining, or trenchless pipe lining, is the process of inserting brand new pipes right inside your old pipe system.  Lateral lining is an ingenious system designed with the customer’s absolute budget and convenience in mind. Because lateral lining is trenchless, that means there is very little digging and no exhumation whatsoever.   It’s also light-years faster than the old dig-and-replace methods of yesterday.  A job that used to take weeks or months can now be done in a matter of hours. There are many advantages to lateral lining.

Pipe Lining: Scientifically Advanced Trenchless Technology

Lateral lining comes under the umbrella term “trenchless technology.”  Trenchless technology refers to the minimal or no digging involved in the process.  Lateral lining only requires one entry pit to insert the liner into, no other digging required.  Most of the work is done underground.  We’ve all seen the major construction messes involved with digging.  Imagine that mess and damage at your house.  Lateral pipe lining allows for a seamless, efficient work flow that is completed within a few hours depending on the work site and the extent of rehabilitation involved.  With lateral lining, you can carry on with your day as if nothing were out of the ordinary, with the knowledge that professional plumbers will be done in a matter of hours…without causing expensive and unnecessary damage to your property.
