Best Trenchless Pipe RepairHaving a busted water pipe can be a stressful thing. We here at Sewer Express want to assist in any way we can to help you get it replaced. Once it has been determined that your pipe will be replaced rather than repaired for whatever reason, you must take action in deciding which method of replacement you will choose for your home. Trenching formerly was the way to replace pipes. Technicians would dig around the entire surface of the pipe. This included its entire length and around the cylinder fully. Not only is this method time consuming due to its demanding physical labor, it is also quite costly. Since it requires so much digging, almost your entire lawn is ruined. Adding landscaping to your bill is not something many homeowners want to do. Additionally it takes one to two days for the job to be completed. Due to all the cons associated with trenching, trenchless technology was born! Choosing to repair your water pipe by way of trenchless technology is a brilliant choice. Even within this segment you have options though. Let us here at Sewer Express help determine which method is best for your Sacramento home.

Cured in place pipe methods are great for homeowners who want a quick fix that lasts. There are a variety of means to do this.

Relining using CIPP (Cured in Place Pipe)

Cured in place pipe, or CIPP, relining is a great option for pipes that need added strength. It is efficient and effective. With this, the pipe is merely relined using a seamless PVC infused liner to mend all the holes and cracks in the existing water pipe. Hydro jetting is a process that is used to thoroughly clean the pipe before the relining takes place. This is crucial to be sure the liner will be secured properly. This process will remove any debris from the pipe to make way for the new lining.  After the pipe is clean, the liner is put in place. The liner is sealed in place using hot, high pressure steam that is run through the line. If the pipe is too damaged, this method may not be the best option for your home. The pipe must be able to withstand the process and also strong enough to last for many more years. If it is not, then simply putting a durable liner in may not be the choice for you.

Trenchless Pipe Bursting

Trenchless pipe bursting is used to completely replace a water or sewer pipe. The pipe that is damaged is targeted. A hole is dug at each end of it. Only a small opening is needed for this process. A small incision is then made on both ends of the pipe to be replaced. The next step is to feed a thick cable through one end and at the other end, a spear shaped tool that is called a “bursting head” is attached. A new PVC or HDPE portion of pipe is attached to the opposite end. Here is where the trenchless technology gets amazing. The spear shaped tool, or bursting head, literally bursts the existing pipe to shreds while simultaneously laying the new pipe. This is one of the most efficient ways to incorporate CIPP methods into your pipe repair. Pipe bursting is used when the pipe is in too poor of shape to simply reline it.

Trenchless Pipe Replacement

Another form of trenchless pipe replacement is available. In this way CIPP is utilized as well. A small machine is inserted into the existing pipe. The machine carries a new pipe behind it that is slightly smaller than the original one. It is dragged through the old pipe and is sealed in place. This now acts as the water pipe. The pipe within the pipe now functions in the way the old damaged pipe did. This method is beneficial for pipes that are too rotten to simply line.

Pull-in-place Lining

The pull-in-place lining process uses a fiberglass and resin liner to line an existing pipe that is flawed in some way whether by crack or hole. Similar to pipe bursting, only a small hole needs to be dug and only a little hole in the pipe is needed: one before and one after the area that is being repaired. A wench is used to pull the new liner through the pipe. Just like relining using CIPP, you must apply steam to seal the liner to the damaged pipe. Again this method cannot be used if the pipe is in really bad condition. Lining it will cure any small cracks or holes and will add strength to it but it does not replace the structure of the pipe.

Inversion Lining

Inversion lining is great for pipes that have a few cracks or gaps. It greatly adds durability to pipes that are still able to function. With this method a liner made of a felt tube and resin is put into place and sealed like the other liners we have discussed. This liner is smooth and jointless.

Overall it is safe to say that trenchless pipe methods of repair are extremely beneficial and absolutely preferred over the outdated method of digging trenches. Trenchless technology created a way to repair and replace pipes in a quicker and more cost-effective way. We at Sewer Express would love to help you decide which method is best for your Sacramento home. Essentially if your water pipe is still in decent condition and is not old and decrepit, simply lining your pipe through trenchless innovations may be best for you. If it is not able to be lined then perhaps replacing it through something like pipe bursting would be a better option.
